What follows are the photos from my computer cabling project. Before, during, and after. It ended up being an all-day affair.

All the cables on the ground was driving me crazy. Not to mention the straggly-hair-look of the cables coming down. Also, the zip-ties had to go; replaced them with cut-to-size velcro.

I pulled the monitor out to install a 3.5" x 18" shelf behind it. The router and modem will sit on it. Oh and I bought a 14" fluorescent light that I installed under the mini shelf. That was definitely a Lifehacker-inspired purchase

Everything is set up top. Strung all the cables straight down. Now the hard part: grouping and binding. A nice big roll of velcro awaits.

Look at those cables! Sexytime. The entire project, including my monitor back lighting, was financed from a Home Dept gift card. I had some extra AMEX points to spend on myself. Less than $30 for hooks, velcro, and light. But it was a buttload of time spent cleaning and organizing.

This side of the building can only be seen from the back windows of the New York Athletic Club. Seems like a waste to have such a gorgeous facade completely out of sight

Saw the Tim Burton exhibit at the MoMA today. It was packed in there, but well worth fighting the crowds.

East Village Radio

I was down at Lil' Frankies with my cousins for dinner. The world's smallest radio station, East Village Radio, is right next door.

McCormack's

I think I found the trifecta:
1) perfect pints of Guinness
2) free wi-fi
3) good bar food

I can't believe it took me nearly 2 years to find McCormack's. Granted, it is 11 blocks away from my apartment, but I think I finally found the perfect local pub here on the east side.

This shot could use some cropping. I really should crop it. I haven't cropped or edited any pictures on this blog, ever. Should I start now? I'm not a die-hard purist, it's just that ... I don't know what it is. I guess I always took the time to frame shots better so I didn't have to crop/edit. Let this picture be a lesson to me: Rich, frame your shots better.

Pepsi in a Bottle

Ah, the never ending quest for Pepsi in a glass bottle continues. This time my parents drove into NYC to visit me in the beginning of the month. They hit up a few bodegas in Hell's Kitchen until they found a case and a half. They also got the card and spoke with the owner. Next time they come to town, just call a week in advance and he'll order as many cases as my dad wants from the distributor. SCORE!

So I didn't feel too bad having one while back in Pgh for Christmas. But I wouldn't have more than one.

Christmas Trees in Union Square

LM and I went down to the Farmer's Market and Christmas Shops in Union Square. Trees are so expensive in the city. I'd probably spend the money if I had somewhere to put it. Instead I'll just enjoy my shots of them.

Christmas Sweater Contest Winner

Paul and a friend were in town. We went to see Paul's friend's friend's cover band perform. They didn't tell me it was also a Christmas sweater contest! Ah well, I couldn't have beat the winner.

Bryant Park at Christmastime

Now that I'm working in midtown again my photo obsession with City Hall Park is eclipsed by my midtown obsession: Bryant Park. During the Christmas shopping season they install a massive temporary rink, shops, a two story temporary building including a restaurant on the 2nd floor, and new this year: an outdoor space with a fire pit, heat lamps, and Adirondack chairs. Here's the grand tour:

Macchiato Espresso Bar is rapidly becoming my favorite afternoon espresso fix. Double espresso. mmmmmmm

St. Patrick's from Madison Ave

Most people go to Fifth Avenue to get their obligitory picture of St. Patrick's Cathedral, but they're missing some nice shots on the Madison Ave side, especially in the morning sun.

This is the first picture I'm publishing with my new DROID. The Blackberry's time/date stamp seemed to have issues and I could never rely on the dates exactly. The DRIOD has a 5MP camera and will geo-locate pictures with GPS coordinates. Looking forward to some good new shots with this baby!

A Bathing Ape Sample Sale

It's a rare day when a guy drags his girlfriend to a sample sale, but I couldn't pass up the A Bathing Ape sale downtown. We waiting in line in the sun for an hour before getting in and I'd have to say it was worth.

Jeff Getting Crazy

Kathleen & Jeff came up for a quick weekend for her birthday. They stayed with me and we laid low the whole weekend. Here Jeff's getting crazy with some beer/tequila combo. Parents without the kids around!! What will happen next!?!? (we'll probably just go back to the apt and call the babies on Skype)

Knutsford Terrace, Kowloon, Hong Kong

It's stinking hot in Hong Kong. The humidity feels like 100% and adds 10 degrees to the effective temperature. When I'm out exploring Kowloon I always take time to stop and cool off at Knutsford Terrace. Here's the view from an Indian restaurant where I had a delicious lunch.
